چکیده
A patient is described who developed a right pneumothorax and a left hydrothorax following percutaneous subclavian vein cannulation. The prevention, diagnosis and treatment of this complication are discussed.

Bilateral hydrothorax and cardiac tamponade after right subclavian vein catheterization -A case report-
Central venous catheterization is typically used for the anesthetic management of patients undergoing a major surgery or care of patients in Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The occurrence of complications associated with central venous catheterization such as pneumothorax or vascular injury have decreased, while delayed complications such as hydrothorax, hydromediastinum, or cardiac tamponade have r...
متن کاملBilateral Pneumothoraces Following Central Venous Cannulation
We report the occurrence of a bilateral pneumothoraces after unilateral central venous catheterization of the right subclavian vein in a 70-year-old patient. The patient had no history of pulmonary or pleural disease and no history of cardiothoracic surgery. Two days earlier, she had a median laparotomy under general and epidural anaesthesia. Prior to the procedure, the patient was hemodynamica...
متن کاملSubclavian Vein Cannulation Success Rate in Neonates and Children
BACKGROUND Central vein cannulation allows the administration of large volumes of fluids in short times and at high osmolarities for rehydration, volume replacement, chemotherapy, and parenteral nutrition. Percutaneous central venous line insertion has replaced peripheral venous cut-down as the primary mode of short-term venous access in children. OBJECTIVES The aim of our study was to deline...
متن کاملThe real effectiveness of ultrasound guidance in subclavian venous access.
AIM The technique of ultrasound-guided subclavian cannulation was evaluated in our experience assessing the real effectiveness of such procedure. METHODS We have evaluated 297 subclavian cannulation, performed for the placement of central venous catheter both with landmark method (176 patients) and ultrasound guided technique (121 patients) to assess the real effectiveness of the ultrasound-g...
متن کاملThe influence of the direction of J-tip on the placement of a subclavian catheter: real time ultrasound-guided cannulation versus landmark method, a randomized controlled trial
BACKGROUND It has been reported that the direction of the guidewire J-tip is associated with misplacement of a central venous catheter. We hypothesized that real-time ultrasound-guided infraclavicular subclavian venous cannulation would be less influenced by the direction of guidewire J-tip compared to landmark method. METHODS Sixty adult patients who required subclavian venous catheterizatio...
